Free Competitive Discussions at MWLUG
It was 3 years ago when I last posted this on my blog. and the conversations we had then went well into the night and days. Sadly due to scheduling conflicts I had to miss out on the last 2 years. But I am back and looking to see everyone again.
And I am happy to say I will be doing it again at MWLUG 2013. Which if you are near the area, you should definitely be going to this can't miss event. Where else can you attend a charity brewfest competition featuring your fellow administrators and developers?
I will be enjoying the Crowne Plaza Hotel Downtown Union Station in Indianapolis, Indiana during MWLUG where it all takers place.
If you will be attending MWLUG or are around Wen afternoon or evening we can discuss how to handle objections, executive decisions, political turf and other routes to unrest which may cause you or your organization or clients to question their future directions.
So email me, send me a Tweet, G+ me, Skype me.
I will be around until Friday morning and looking forward to seeing everyone.

I'm Back In The Saddle Again... FudBuster Friday's Return
For those to young to remember, in readership days that is, or missed them the 1st time, they were about the sometimes Microsoft FUD that existed, sometimes Google or sometimes just bad business choices and how to fight them or work against them or with them in some cases. Google Fudbuster Friday sometime you might like what you find.
When last I left off it was august 2009 and I had posted one every Friday for a year, holidays, vacations, sickness and health. But I got tired of writing a weekly column and wanted a vacation from it.
Why start it again now?
Almost 2 years ago and in that time MUCH has changed. Some for the better, some not. Social Media is much more powerful than before, as an evolution of messaging, and the product range from IBM and others which is available today brings amazing opportunities for businesses.
I have changed, my business has changed, your decisions have changed. It is no longer as important which product you use per se, but how you will choose to use them.
Free is not for you in the corporate world.
You get what you pay for has never meant as much as it does now.
Your employees will not work for free, neither should you expect your business to run itself for free. Everything has a price. Everything.
See you Friday morning.

Project Liberate - Hits the Microsoft Wallet, LS09 BDDAy
My interest, and it should be yours, your CIO and CEO and especially your CFO, is not just save money or convert clients to Lotus.
It's to provide a logic to understand, the Microsoft Tax, as some have called it.
Microsoft is hurting, the companies that said they would go to Exchange, never did and they are still trying to get them to do the migration. But in this economic environment, why would you pay over $3million dollars to move a moderate size company and still just have email?
Microsoft is aware of Liberate and may now start digging in their heels even more to stop the losses. Google hits them, IBM hits them, but Microsoft still hurts themselves.
If they do not discount any pricing, but will do it for "free", where does that leave you in your organization?
If you can't explain to your C executives why it isn't free, you need help, ask me, or you can go to the IBM group itself. http://www.ibm.com/software/info/liberate
Nothing is free in life, even death is expensive. So get over the free discussion already and face reality. If you don't believe it, numbers don't lie. YOUR numbers.

FudBuster #3: Exchange is Free and how they got 100 million MOSS licenses
"And that's why we are migrating away from Lotus." Cost
Right, and I have a bridge in Miami for you.
They say honesty is the best policy, but Microsoft does their best to not change your perception's of the truth, even if you are wrong.
Yes, I have discussed this many times in the past, but let's do this simply.
In order for your company to obtain EXACTLY what you already have in the Lotus Notes Client and Lotus Domino Server you will need the following items(NOT Including the OS):
1) Exchange Server 2007
2) Exchange Server Standard CAL 2007
3) Exchange Server Enterprise CAL 2007 which is a 2nd CAL you MUST buy if you want the added items for the RIGHTS to use Unified Messaging, Journaling, Compliancy(?), "Premium" Anti-Spam and Anti-virus. Hopefully better than what goes into MSN/Hotmail Live. Some of this is built in to Domino by default.
4) Office Groove 2007 - Similar to the teamroom template but in equating Like to Like it must be added.
5) Office 2007 - One version or another which is the only way to obtain an Outlook client. Most larger companies will be swayed into buying the Office Enterprise 2007 version which includes #4, the first of the "look what you get for free" discussions plus pieces of other Microsoft products you are not likely to use or hear from in the future.
6) Outlook 2007 requires the Core CAL Suite if you will access Exchange but this CAL also includes Sharepoint Server 2007 CAL and thus one insight to how Microsoft claims to have sold 100 Million licenses Which this articles shows is a $10/CAL 1billion/100million.
7) Enterprise CAL Suite is what you REALLY require since it includes among other bits, the ability to encrypt messaging traffic generated through emails and instant messages. Buying this includes #6 so another "look what you get for free or included" discussion.
Now if you are a small shop you may only need some of these and if you are a large enterprise I have a longer list of what you need or rather what Microsoft says you need.
If you are contemplating the move to Exchange, or your Enterprise renewal is coming up, think about it and if you need more information, just ask. Remember, it was someone else's over payments to Microsoft which allowed them to bid for Yahoo! at $44 Billion in CASH! Don't make their mistake.

Sametime on a Blackberry Installation Docs
I recently edited a manual, well more a guide, for those who were lost or troubled by the Sametime on a Blackberry client.
Most of the doucment is culled from RIM and IBM support with my edits and additions were applicable along qith key information about versions of clients for which BES versions.
Note this is for the Sametime client from RIM itself. NOT the Lotus Mobile Sametime client.
For those interested in the document or wanting to download it, we will ask for your name, so you are forewarned! I'd like to see the interest for future ideas or topics for papers.
Make sure you say you heard about it from my blog or Twitter or PlanetLotus or whatever makes sense. Maybe this will become a Lotusphere case study if I have enough replies.
Go here to get it.

Free migration to Domino from Exchange
Well, let's step back a minute and then read the last 2 lines of this post.
Why not? You probably have a cadre of staff sitting around anyway, why not put them to good use.
What? They are busy?
But Exchange is a quiet and perfectly upright piece of software, what could they possibly be doing all day long?
You have a help desk, you have an ID management group, you even have a security group, and probably a hardware group too....all assigned to manage your Exchange infrastructure, or I should say AD.
So why not get them to help build a Domino server and at least see the other side.
What if you really did not need to have so many silos of servers?
What if you really couold do this collaboration thing, but from within 1 server, not needing 3,5,7 or 9?
What if you really wanted to reduce your harwdare, OS, licensing, electric, real estae costs?
Nah, you'll never do it, big business is in it for the salary, no one wants to actually reinvent their company.
Or do they?
By the way, I will honor the free migration to Domino, for one server or one group of people up to 100 users.
After that you pay the rest of the migration.
