Jelan Heidelberg announced today something we have known in the market place for almost a year or more. Document manager is being phased out in favor of FileNet and Enterprise Content Manager at the high end and Lotus Quickr at the low end.
May 2009 will be the end, support will continue until Sep 2012.
Some highlights are an expected Office 2007 point release fix, sometime in mid to late H2 2009. However, no expectation should exist around R8 support.
A trade in or trade up option for those on Doc currently will be offered.
Free to Lotus Quickr full version and to the restricted Filenet/ECM. Restricted means you will not be able to use the API's unless it is to meet a Dom.Doc customization. And you can not use the add-on products from Filenet/ECM.
Quickr will get some additional help in it's document management support but don't expect Dom.Doc level.
There are some caveats which are based on processor licenses but in the end IBM will do what needs to get done to help you move forward.
Expect some updates, finally, to the Doc website, wiki, etc.. over the next few months. assessment programs.
So the bottom line is, what are you doing with Doc? what will you want to do, what can you do? The lotus Quickr connectors make life much easier for everyone especially if you want to share the data.
In discussions with some IBM people around this topic I asked if Quickr can scale to 60GB files and the answer I received was internally at IBM the Lotus Quickr server is hosting 300GB+ of sites.
While some of my clients will be happy to know the end game, they have choices to make and they want to move fast to a new platform. that's my job for them and we hope to get them there with IBM's help as well when required and available.

It happens again, BES Knocks off Traveler
When last we left it in my post a few months back, we had found the 4.1.6 version of BES added a cute little line that disables Traveler. Of course this presumes both run on the same server.
So it is also with MR3, the latest update which I installed in an attempt to resolve a dropping of BES from our Lotus 8.5 Domino server.
Now can anyone tell me how to update the dll for the security patch? I presume I need to copy them over, but the readme was not readable for me.
And why can't I access my server NAB in Traveler when emailing staff? My phone is on its last legs, just has to get through Lotusphere 2009, so am not worrying too much.
So onward to Lotusphere now that everyone has Blackberries buzzing and Traveler's traveling.
And yet another day delay in the website for this:

No Session in Orlando? Now What?
How you going to go, what are you going to do?
Well I know of at least one company with space for you, if you want to help them with their pedestal. A little company called Elguji' and let Bruce know you want to help.
Or Twitter him.
Other BPs may have space. You get an exhibitor's pass which usually does not allow you to go to the OGS or any sessions. However, based on past experience we all know people and there are ways to get you in some sessions. No hands on though, sorry or anything requiring registration.
Other than this, there are many ways to share hotel/car and other amenities. We have covered many times the options for food, drink and other luxuries.
Oh and you will not get a Lotusphere 2009 backpack or t-shirt(the freebie given for filling out the conference review form). However the backpacks usually go on sale late Wednesday or early Thursday if you really MUST have one. Usually about $20 for them.

LS09: Blogger's Lounge Update
Sorry to everyone that has been hanging on, I can now fill in the gaps.
We planned for an open and active group of people to provide assistance to the lounge.
Some topics were discussed and various promotional vendors were invited to assist.
Our intention is to host a party if you will, that lasts 4 days.
It was never meant to exclude anyone and in fact was viewed as an extremely good way to enhance communication, collaboration and just meet other like minded people or even people you have no other way to meet.
Ideally we saw it as a way for some specific time to blog, downtime, or just meet up with others.
Unfortunately, the Lotusphere team has decided not to grant us space for a lounge.
Although I did try to bend their ear with a few people, the bottom line is the premise fell on deaf ears as they saw it as a divisive item instead of a unification one.
Can't say I see it that way. In fact NOT having one creates more division because now I have to try to find or locate 50+ people I want to meet when it could have been much easier.
Twitter and cell phones will once again play a large part for most of us in Orlando trying to find another. Perhaps the RFID tags at Lotusphere can be enabled so the attendees can find other people they are searching for.
Having said all this I live in hope that we can all still come together somehow, aside from a certain BoF which usually gets accepted. Whoever handles the Blogger dinner, let me know if we can expand that idea and have it Sunday night or something like that. I know I for one would like to put face and voice to many of you and hopefully you feel the same.

LS09 - Blogger's Lounge Update #2
While many of you have joined the Facebook group, and many joined Facebook for the first time as well it seems, not my intention, you could stay out of FB like Greg Eldred(thanks for volunteering at the Lounge), others have asked why it wasn't being done in a Lotus product.
In short I needed a fast way to get some fast input and figured it would help to see the interest from the community.(this line Edited 9/10 9pm)
Those of you at work during the day with no FB access, can go in tonight and give us your feedback and times.
Well I have good news, I set us up at Bleedyellow.com.
Bad news? Technical difficulties exist with the forum section.
I will keep the FB side updated as well as the Bleedyellow side.
www.Bleedyellow.com is the location. If you don't have an account yet, go get one, sign up and join in everyting Connections has to offer.
Using Lotus Connections 2.0 I have created a Community for the Blogger's Lounge.
Used Chris's new Lotusphere Abstract template with a few renames.
And an Activity for the Blogger's Lounge.
NOTE: I can not link the 2 so you must find the community, Blogger's Lounge and the related Activity or ask me to include you, it does not accept group names.(Edited 9/10 9pm)
There will be a subsequent "Sametime Broadcast Community" by tomorrow so those of us using an R8 Sametime client can connect easier without having to always go into BleedYellow.
Thanks to Chris Whisonant, the Lotus Connections Guru of Lotus911, and of course Lotus911 for maintaining the Bleedyellow site.
Also thanks to Chris Toohey for his blog posting and call to action. And lastly to David Schaffer that commented on Chris's site that made me drop my day work to resolve the glaring problem.

Lotusphere 09 Blogger Lounge - Update #1
If you are coming to Lotusphere and blog Lotus items or IBM or appear on PLanetLotus.org you may want to go check on the Facebook group created for the Blogger Lounge.
I know you are asking why not use a Lotus program, well, we will, just not for this part. Why not use Ideajam? See the post here and comment in its discussion if you wish.
I felt since so many are on Facebook(I invited 80 of you to it already!) it was easiest to get across what is needed. Click on the link to go the group.
If you are not on Facebook, you lucky devil, email me so I update you and incldue you.
Could set up a Quickr site on Bleedyellow and may still do that as time progresses.
Just can't be everywhere and make everyone log in to a dozen places.
For now we just need to know who can volunteer to staff the Lounge, anything from 1-3 hours over the course of the week is all we ask.
